Police Clarify Viral Car Video in Gnaneshwari Missing Case, Urge Public to Avoid Rumours
Police investigating the disappearance of two-year-old Gnaneshwari have issued an official clarification regarding a viral social media video that allegedly showed a suspicious car near the child's home on the day she went missing. The statement also addressed remarks made by a relative of the child, as speculation surrounding the case continued online.
The disappearance of Gnaneshwari has remained one of the most closely watched cases in the erstwhile Godavari districts, with the investigation continuing for nearly a month. Despite sustained efforts by investigators, the child's whereabouts have not yet been established.
As public attention intensified, a video circulating on social media claimed to show a suspicious vehicle moving near the child's residence on the day of her disappearance. The footage gained further traction after Koteswara Rao, identified as the child's grandfather by relation, told some media outlets that the same vehicle had later hit him in Narsipatnam. His comments prompted speculation that the two incidents could be connected.

Police reject claims linking the two incidents
Responding to the growing circulation of unverified claims, Tuni Rural Police released a press note explaining the circumstances surrounding the reported road accident and the viral video.
According to the police, Koteswara Rao was travelling towards Narsipatnam to paste missing posters related to Gnaneshwari when he was involved in a minor road accident. Investigators stated that the incident was accidental and not a deliberate attempt to hit him.
The police further clarified that there was no evidence to support claims circulating on social media that the vehicle had intentionally struck him or that the accident was connected to the child's disappearance.
Relative revises earlier statement
The official clarification also included a video statement from Koteswara Rao.
In the video, he said that he had initially believed the vehicle seen near CH Agraharam and the one involved in the accident in Narsipatnam were the same. However, after reviewing the matter more carefully, he concluded that they were different vehicles.
He also stated that he had not been able to clearly identify the vehicle's registration number and acknowledged that his earlier comments were made in a state of confusion.
His revised explanation followed statements he had reportedly made to some media organisations a day earlier, in which he had said the two vehicles were the same. The change in his account has since become a subject of discussion on social media.
Investigation continues
Police emphasised that every lead connected to the Gnaneshwari missing case is being examined. They said any credible information received during the investigation is being thoroughly verified before conclusions are drawn.
The department also appealed to the public not to circulate unverified claims, speculative theories or misleading content on social media. According to the police, the spread of inaccurate information has the potential to divert the investigation and create unnecessary confusion.
Investigators urged members of the public to cooperate with the ongoing probe and to share only verified information through official channels.
Appeal for responsible sharing of information
With the investigation still underway, police reiterated that responsible public cooperation remains essential. They warned that rumours and unsupported narratives could interfere with investigative efforts and distract from establishing the facts.
Authorities said the search for Gnaneshwari is continuing and assured the public that all available evidence and information are being examined as part of the investigation. They again requested that people refrain from sharing false or unverified content and instead support the inquiry by relying on official updates.
