Congress High Command Reviews YS Sharmila for Karnataka Rajya Sabha Nomination

The YS Sharmila Rajya Sabha nomination discussion has gained momentum as the Congress high command continues consultations ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. With candidate selection underway in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president YS Sharmila's name is reportedly among those being considered for a seat in the Upper House.

The latest update comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for June 18. Several aspirants within the Congress party are said to be lobbying for nominations as the party prepares its final list of candidates.

Congress Begins Rajya Sabha Candidate Selection Process

The Congress leadership is currently engaged in selecting candidates to be sent to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. The party enjoys a strong position in the Karnataka Assembly with 136 MLAs, giving it the numbers to secure at least three Rajya Sabha seats from the state.

According to reports, YS Sharmila's name has emerged as one of the candidates under consideration. The development has drawn attention due to her role as the Andhra Pradesh Congress chief and her growing visibility within the party structure.

Sources indicate that Sharmila recently met senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, where discussions reportedly included the possibility of a Rajya Sabha nomination. However, the party has not issued any official statement regarding the final selection.

Senior Leaders Also Under Consideration

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to receive another Rajya Sabha term as his current membership nears completion. His renomination is widely seen as a key part of the party's candidate selection exercise.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was also reportedly offered a Rajya Sabha seat after stepping down from the chief minister's post. However, he is understood to have declined the offer.

With changes expected in Karnataka's political landscape and a new government formation process underway, the Congress leadership is also evaluating options for accommodating senior leaders who may not find a place in the new cabinet.

Congress Leadership to Finalise Names Soon

Another name being discussed is Parvathi, wife of Siddaramaiah, who is reportedly under consideration for a Rajya Sabha opportunity. The leadership is weighing multiple factors before finalising the list of nominees.

The notification for the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections was issued on Monday, formally initiating the election process. As candidate selection enters its final stage, Congress leaders are expected to announce the names shortly.

Speaking on the matter, Mallikarjun Kharge stated that candidate names for Karnataka and other states would be declared soon. The YS Sharmila Rajya Sabha nomination remains one of the closely watched developments as the Congress high command completes its selection process.
