Four Killed in Vizianagaram Highway Accident
Four people were killed, and two others sustained serious injuries in a major road accident in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district. The incident occurred on the national highway near Pusapatirega when a car struck pedestrians before colliding with a lorry.
District police officials have registered a case and initiated a preliminary investigation into the cause of the fatal crash. The injured have been shifted to a government hospital in Vizianagaram for urgent medical attention.
Details of the Incident
According to initial reports, the car was travelling at high speed from Srikakulam towards Visakhapatnam. While on the Pusapatirega stretch of the highway, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
The car first hit a group of pedestrians who were by the side of the road. Subsequently, it crashed with significant force into a lorry, leading to severe damage and immediate fatalities at the scene.
Police Response and Investigation
Local police from the Pusapatirega station were alerted and rushed to the spot. Emergency services were also dispatched to provide aid to the victims. The area was cordoned off to manage traffic and facilitate rescue operations.
Authorities have begun collecting evidence from the crash site and are seeking to record statements from eyewitnesses. The investigation is expected to focus on the sequence of events, particularly the speed of the car prior to the collision.
Identification of Victims
Two of the deceased have been identified by the police as Simhachalam and Srinivas. Efforts are currently underway to ascertain the identities of the other two victims. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination as per standard procedure.
The two individuals who were injured in the incident are receiving treatment at a hospital in Vizianagaram. Their condition is being monitored by medical staff. Police are also working to inform the families of the deceased and injured.
