Vijayawada Missing Case: CI Suspended, Senior IPS Officer to Lead Inquiry Into Sai Krishna Disappearance
The Andhra Pradesh government has moved swiftly in the disappearance case of Gadde Sai Krishna from Krishnalanka in Vijayawada, suspending the local police inspector facing accusations in the matter and ordering a fresh inquiry to be led by a senior IPS officer.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu convened a high-level review at the secretariat with senior police officials shortly after returning from his Singapore visit. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also attended the meeting, where DGP Harish Kumar Gupta and other senior officers briefed both leaders on the details of the case.
During the review, Chandrababu Naidu directed that strict action be taken against Krishnalanka Circle Inspector Nagaraju, who has been facing serious allegations in connection with Sai Krishna's disappearance. The CI has since been placed under suspension. The Chief Minister further ordered that the inquiry be conducted by a senior IPS officer and that it must proceed without bias. He also directed the DGP to submit a comprehensive report on the matter.

Pawan Kalyan, speaking at the same meeting, emphasised that those found responsible must face stringent consequences. The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Sai Prasad, Intelligence Chief Mahesh Chandra Ladha, and Vijayawada Commissioner of Police Rajasekhar Babu.
Rajamahendravaram SP Narasimha Kishor has been assigned to lead the investigation, acting under the Chief Minister's direct orders. He is expected to visit Krishnalanka police station to begin proceedings.
Meanwhile, Sai Krishna's mother Vijayalakshmi has approached a court in Vijayawada seeking the preservation of key evidence, including CCTV footage from the Krishnalanka police station and call data records. In her petition before the Second Additional Junior Magistrate Court in Vijayawada, she alleged that CI Nagaraju used her son's phone to make calls and that Sai Krishna was brought to the police station and subjected to torture. The court is expected to deliver its ruling on the petition shortly.
Vijayalakshmi has been publicly demanding answers, stating that the police are responsible for what happened to her son. She has appealed that if he is alive, he should be produced before her, and if he has died, his body should be handed over to the family. Her appeal to the court to secure the CCTV footage and call records reflects her concern that critical evidence could be tampered with or lost before the investigation reaches its conclusions.
The case has drawn significant political attention and placed the Andhra Pradesh police administration under considerable scrutiny. The speed with which the government acted, including the suspension of the accused CI and the appointment of an independent IPS officer to oversee the probe, signals that the state's leadership is treating the matter as a serious institutional failure requiring urgent accountability.
