Telangana police launch probe after gang attacks Venkatadri Express near Shamshabad
Stone-pelting incident near railway track
A group of around 30 individuals allegedly carried out a stone-pelting attack on the Venkatadri Express near Thimmapur, close to Shamshabad in Telangana. The incident occurred when the train was passing through the area after departing from Secunderabad towards Tirupati.
The attackers reportedly hid along the railway track and suddenly hurled stones at the moving train. Several stones hit the windows and coaches, causing panic among passengers onboard.
Police response and chase operation
Police personnel who were on patrol in the area noticed the incident and attempted to intervene immediately. As they moved to apprehend the group, the attackers fled from the spot.
A chase operation followed, with police pursuing the group over a considerable distance. Despite efforts, most of the suspects managed to escape by running through nearby areas, including a venture near the old national highway in Nandigama mandal.
Clash during pursuit and detentions
During the pursuit, the group allegedly attempted to surround and attack the police personnel, escalating the situation. Additional forces were called in as the situation turned tense.
While the majority of the group escaped under the cover of darkness, police managed to detain two women believed to be part of the group. Their identities and affiliations are under verification.
Investigation into motive and group links
During questioning, the detained women claimed they had come to sell rudraksha malas. However, police said their responses lacked clarity regarding their presence at the location during the late hours and the circumstances of the attack.
Authorities suspect the involvement of organised groups possibly linked to Bihar, Odisha and Rajasthan. Investigators are examining whether the attack was pre-planned and if trains were specifically targeted.
Search operations and public advisory
Police teams continued search operations through the night in surrounding areas to trace the remaining suspects. Special teams have been deployed to intensify the manhunt.
Residents in Thimmapur and Nandigama mandals have been advised not to provide shelter to unknown persons. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious movement near railway tracks by dialling emergency services.
The incident has raised concerns as similar attacks on trains have been reported in states like Odisha and Bihar. Authorities are assessing whether there is any pattern or coordinated activity behind such incidents.
Further investigation is underway to determine the motive and extent of the operation behind the attack.
