Telangana Approves Recruitment for 1,500 TGSRTC Conductor Posts

The Telangana government has approved the recruitment of 1,500 conductor posts in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), marking the first large-scale regular appointments for the position since the formation of the state. The recruitment process is expected to begin after officials resolve issues related to the evaluation of SSC grading and release the official notification.

According to information available, TGSRTC will conduct the recruitment process for the sanctioned vacancies. Preparations are underway following the government's approval, and officials are expected to issue a detailed recruitment notification once clarity is received from the State Board of Secondary Education regarding the conversion of SSC grades into marks.

Selection likely to be based on SSC marks

The proposed recruitment process is expected to rely on Class 10 (SSC) academic performance rather than a written examination, following the selection method adopted by the corporation in previous conductor recruitments.

However, officials are currently addressing a technical issue arising from changes in the SSC evaluation system. While some candidates possess marks under the earlier examination pattern, others have grades under the grading system introduced later. As both categories of candidates may apply under the same recruitment process, TGSRTC is seeking guidance on how grade points should be converted into percentage marks for the purpose of preparing a merit list.

According to the information available, the corporation has already written to the SSC Board seeking clarification. The recruitment notification is expected to be issued after the board communicates its decision on the grading methodology.

First major regular recruitment in nearly a decade

The upcoming recruitment is significant because regular conductor appointments have not been carried out in TGSRTC since the formation of Telangana. During this period, a large number of employees retired from service, resulting in a steady increase in vacancies across the corporation.

To maintain operations, TGSRTC has relied on outsourcing arrangements to fill part of the workforce requirement. However, regular recruitment has remained a long-standing demand as permanent vacancies continued to grow.

The government's approval for 1,500 posts is expected to provide partial relief to the corporation's staffing requirements and create employment opportunities for candidates seeking government jobs.

Staff shortage continues across the corporation

Officials estimate that more than 2,000 conductor posts are currently vacant across TGSRTC. The requirement has increased further following the induction of new buses into the fleet, with the corporation estimating that it needs more than 3,000 conductors overall to meet operational demands.

Against this backdrop, the approval for 1,500 posts represents the first phase of recruitment aimed at reducing the staffing shortfall.

The shortage of conductors has affected operations at several depots. Existing employees have reportedly been assigned double duties in many locations, while drivers on some long-distance services have also been issuing tickets. In addition, outsourced personnel have been deployed to ensure continuity of services.

TGSRTC has been urging the state government to permit regular recruitment as a long-term solution to these operational challenges.

Official notification awaited

The recruitment notification has not yet been released. Officials are expected to publish comprehensive details after receiving clarification from the SSC Board on the grading issue.

The notification is likely to include information on the number of vacancies, eligibility criteria, reservation policy, application procedure, and the final selection process.

Candidates interested in applying have been advised to await the official TGSRTC recruitment notification for confirmed eligibility conditions and application dates.
