Telangana Government Commences Phase 1 Development of Zaheerabad Industrial City
The development of the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) at Zaheerabad has officially commenced after a 13-year delay. This mega industrial project is set to transform the region into a major manufacturing hub, attracting significant domestic and international investment commitments.
Infrastructure Allocation and Investment Commitments
The total project spans 12,635 acres, designated as a mega NIMZ to facilitate large-scale industrial growth. For the first phase of development, the government has allocated 3,245 acres, with an infrastructure investment outlay of ₹2,369 crore.
Private sector players have already committed investments exceeding ₹14,000 crore for the zone. Hyundai R&D leads the investment charts with a commitment of ₹8,528 crore, for which 675 acres have been earmarked. Other major firms including Triton Electric and VEM Technologies have also secured spots within the industrial city.

Strategic Impact on Manufacturing Sector
The Zaheerabad NIMZ is designed to provide integrated infrastructure including power, water, and logistical connectivity. By bringing together automotive research and development, electric vehicle manufacturing, and defense technology through VEM Technologies, the state aims to create a diversified industrial ecosystem.
The initiation of Phase 1 follows years of administrative processes and land acquisition efforts. The government expects that the functional commencement of these units will generate significant direct and indirect employment opportunities in the Sangareddy district and surrounding areas.
Context of Industrial Expansion in Telangana
The Zaheerabad industrial cluster is a key component of the state’s strategy to decentralize industry away from the Hyderabad core. By establishing specialized zones like the NIMZ, the administration seeks to utilize the proximity to the Maharashtra border and the existing national highway network to improve supply chain efficiency for resident companies.
