A former village sarpanch has died by suicide in the Siddipet district of Telangana, reportedly driven by mounting debt after failing to recover over ₹11 lakh spent on local development works. Pittala Sampath, the former sarpanch of Mohammadapur village in the Husnabad mandal, was found dead after hanging himself from a tree near an agricultural well.

The incident highlights growing distress among former grassroots-level representatives over delayed financial clearances. Sampath had reportedly invested his personal funds to execute essential development infrastructure within his village panchayat during his tenure, anticipating timely reimbursement from the state administration.

According to local sources, the financial pressure escalated significantly as interest on the loans he secured began to accumulate. Despite making numerous rounds to administrative offices to request the release of his pending bills, the funds remained withheld. Representatives of former village heads have expressed frustration over the situation, stating that the current Revanth Reddy-led administration has failed to provide a concrete solution or assurance regarding the clearance of these outstanding dues.

The family of the deceased has alleged institutional negligence and pressure from local administrative staff. Speaking on the tragedy, Sampath’s son stated that his father was repeatedly assured that the pending funds would be transferred directly to his bank account by the evening. However, the clearance never materialized. He added that the current administrative staff subjected his father to severe mental distress over the delayed settlements, which ultimately pushed him to take the extreme step.
