Tadipatri Police Detain Ex-MLA Peddareddy, Stop JC Prabhakar Reddy Amid Political Rivalry

Political tensions ran high in Tadipatri, Anantapur district, on Friday as both TDP and YSRCP cadres prepared rival programmes on the same day. Police took former MLA Kethireddy Peddareddy into preventive custody and stopped TDP Municipal Chairman JC Prabhakar Reddy from reaching the spot, deploying heavy bandobast across the town.

Both sides ended up protesting anyway — just from different locations.

What Triggered the Standoff

The flashpoint was the second anniversary of the NDA coalition government's formation. TDP ranks were set to hold a bike rally to mark the occasion, while YSRCP leaders planned a counter-protest under the banner "Chandrababu Vennupotuku Rendu Yellu" — literally, two years since what they describe as Chandrababu's betrayal.

With two rival groups mobilising simultaneously in the same town, police assessed the law and order risk and decided to act before things escalated.

Peddareddy Detained at His Residence

As per officials, Kethireddy Peddareddy was taken into preventive custody directly from his residence and transported to Anantapur. The move was clearly intended to keep him away from the planned protest site.

YSRCP leaders alleged that police used force to put him into a vehicle. A large number of Peddareddy's supporters gathered outside his home and raised slogans, attempting to block the police vehicle. The confrontation led to a scuffle between activists and police personnel, following which additional forces were deployed to restore order.

JC Prabhakar Reddy Also Stopped

On the other side of the political divide, TDP leader and Tadipatri Municipal Chairman JC Prabhakar Reddy attempted to proceed to Peddareddy's residence. Police intercepted him and his supporters midway, citing concerns over a possible flare-up.

He then staged a sit-in protest on the road near the residence. After some time, police reportedly explained the situation to him and persuaded him to leave the area. No detention was reported in his case.

Peddareddy Hits Out at Police, Names JC

After being taken to Anantapur, Peddareddy staged a protest outside the SP office. He strongly objected to being stopped from holding what he described as a peaceful demonstration.

He alleged that police were acting under pressure from the ruling party and specifically named JC Prabhakar Reddy, claiming the detention was carried out at his behest. Police have not responded to these allegations publicly.

Heavy Security Across Tadipatri

The entire town was placed under a heavy security cover. Additional forces were deployed at key junctions, main roads, and the residences of political leaders. Police monitored the situation continuously to prevent any untoward incidents, and by all accounts, no major violence was reported.

As per sources, the situation had largely normalised by evening, though political tempers remain high in the town. The latest update suggests both parties are likely to continue their war of words over the coming days.
