Call to steer youth away from drugs

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday called upon youth to focus on sports instead of falling into drug abuse. He said encouraging participation in games was essential to ensure a disciplined and productive future generation.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Police Football Championship held at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad’s football legacy highlighted

Reddy recalled that Hyderabad was once known as the “nursery of Indian football” and had produced several top खिलाड़ियों. He noted the city’s contribution to the sport and stressed the need to revive that legacy.

He also referred to the role played by former intelligence chief BN Mallik in promoting football. The Chief Minister said a proposed Sports University, being developed through a government-private partnership, would have noted sportspersons and industrialists on its board.

Focus on youth engagement through sports

The Chief Minister said his priority was to bring youth back to playgrounds, particularly those drifting towards pub culture and drug use. He warned that failure to guide young people in the right direction could have long-term consequences for the country.

After the final match, Reddy briefly joined players on the field and interacted with them. He later presented trophies to the winning teams.

CISF and Assam Rifles teams secure top honours

A total of 34 men’s teams and nine women’s teams from across the country participated in the championship. The CISF team won the gold medal in the men’s category, defeating the Goa Police team, which secured second place. Kerala finished third.

In the women’s category, Assam Rifles secured first place, followed by Odisha in second position. The CISF women’s team finished third.

Officials attend closing ceremony

The event was attended by Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari, DGP B Shivadhar Reddy and Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr M Ramesh. SATS Chairman Shivasena Reddy and several senior police officials, including Sapna Tiwari, Shikha Goel, Abhilasha Bist, Vijay Kumar, Anil Kumar, Sanjay Kumar and Gajarao Bhupal, were also present.
