Health Department Conducts Pulse Polio Drive for Children Under Five
The Pulse Polio campaign is being conducted across the Telugu states on Sunday, with the Health Department urging parents to ensure every child below five years receives polio drops. Officials have appealed to families not to miss the vaccination, saying it remains a key step in keeping India free from polio.
A few minutes today can protect a child from a lifetime of disability.
Pulse Polio Campaign Targets Every Child Below Five
Health authorities have launched the latest Pulse Polio campaign for children aged between zero and five years. Parents have been asked to visit the nearest vaccination booth and ensure their children receive the oral polio vaccine without fail.
Officials said the programme is part of the nationwide effort to maintain India's polio-free status. Even a single missed child can increase the risk of the disease spreading if the virus is reintroduced.
Health Department Appeals to Parents
The Health Department has issued an appeal asking parents not to postpone or ignore the vaccination because of personal or work commitments. As per officials, polio is a preventable disease, but it can cause permanent disability, affecting a child's legs or arms for life.

The department said timely vaccination remains the most effective protection against the disease. Authorities stressed that every eligible child should receive the prescribed dose during the campaign.
House-to-House Vaccination from June 29
Officials said children who miss the Pulse Polio vaccination on Sunday will not be left out. Health workers will conduct a house-to-house vaccination drive on June 29 and June 30 to administer polio drops to those who could not attend the booths on the first day.
The follow-up exercise is aimed at ensuring complete coverage and preventing any child from being missed during the campaign.
Maintaining India's Polio-Free Status
India has remained free of polio through sustained vaccination drives conducted over the years. Health authorities said continued public participation is necessary to protect children and prevent the disease from returning.
Parents have once again been urged to cooperate with health workers and ensure every eligible child receives the Pulse Polio vaccine, helping the country continue its fight against polio.
