Police Probe Heritage Foods After Musi River Pollution Allegations Surface

Allegations of Musi River pollution have surfaced against Heritage Foods Limited, with local residents claiming that dairy waste is being discharged into the river near Nagole in Hyderabad. The latest update has triggered demands for action from the concerned government departments.

The matter came to light after residents reportedly stopped a tanker allegedly carrying dairy waste and questioned its driver before police reached the spot.

Musi River Pollution Allegations Against Heritage Foods

According to local residents, Heritage Foods Limited, a company associated with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has been transporting skimmed whey, a dairy by-product, from its plant at Jaganguda in Shamirpet to the Musi River.

As per the allegations, tankers carrying the waste travel nearly 50 kilometres before allegedly releasing it into the river near Sri Sahadev Singh Nagar Colony in Nagole. Residents claimed that the activity is carried out during the night without public attention.

Locals further alleged that each tanker carries around 18,000 litres of skimmed whey and that at least three tankers are used daily. If accurate, this would amount to more than 50,000 litres of dairy waste being discharged into the river every day.

Questions Raised Over Waste Disposal Process

Residents alleged that skimmed whey should be processed through an industrial waste treatment facility before being released. They claimed that instead of following the prescribed disposal process, the waste was allegedly transported directly to the Musi River.

These allegations have raised fresh concerns over pollution in the river, which has remained under public and official scrutiny for environmental issues.

Police Intervention After Locals Stop Tanker

The incident took a turn when residents reportedly intercepted one of the tankers allegedly returning after unloading the waste into the Musi River.

As per sources, police arrived at the location shortly afterwards. Locals alleged that officers questioned the driver and allowed the tanker to leave. No official statement has yet been issued by the police regarding the allegations or any police investigation into the matter.

Residents Plan Complaint to Government Departments

Following the incident, local residents said they have decided to submit formal complaints to the concerned government departments seeking an inquiry into the alleged dumping of dairy waste into the Musi River.

At the time of filing this report, there was no official response from Heritage Foods Limited regarding the allegations. It also remains unclear whether any case has been registered or whether environmental authorities have initiated an inquiry into the reported Musi River pollution incident.
