Medipally Police Probe Violent Attack During Housewarming Ceremony in Boduppal
A housewarming ceremony in Devender Nagar Colony under Boduppal Municipal Corporation in Medchal-Malkajgiri district descended into violence on Sunday night after a large group of unidentified assailants allegedly stormed the newly inaugurated home, attacked those present, and caused extensive damage to vehicles and property. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to preliminary information, around 40 to 50 individuals armed with sticks and stones entered the premises while the housewarming function was underway. Family members, relatives and guests attending the ceremony reportedly came under attack, creating panic among those gathered at the venue.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Medipally Police Station. Local residents said the attack continued for nearly an hour, leaving the neighbourhood shaken and prompting an emergency police response.
Property damaged, several people injured
The attackers allegedly vandalised five cars, three motorcycles and household belongings inside the newly occupied residence. Decorations and other items arranged for the ceremony were also damaged. Stones were reportedly thrown at the building, causing damage to parts of the structure.
Several guests who attempted to intervene or protect those present sustained injuries after being hit with stones and sticks, according to the initial reports. Some of the injured were said to be in serious condition. Women, children and elderly family members attending the function were among those affected by the violence and were left terrified by the incident.
After receiving information about the attack, Medipally police reached the scene and shifted the injured to hospital for medical treatment.
Journalist also targeted during incident
A journalist who was reportedly recording the attack also came under assault, according to the information available. The assailants allegedly damaged the journalist's car, motorcycle and other belongings during the incident.
No official statement has yet been released regarding the extent of the journalist's injuries.
Police investigating possible motive
Medipally Circle Inspector Jalandhar Reddy visited the scene, gathered preliminary details and initiated the investigation. Police have registered a case and launched a search for those involved in the attack.
Investigators suspect the violence may be linked to previous personal enmity and an ongoing land dispute. However, police have not announced any arrests or confirmed a definitive motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The incident has heightened tension in Devender Nagar Colony, where residents have expressed concern over law and order following the attack.
