Macherla Father Detained Following Staged Suicide of Daughter
A man has been detained by police in Macherla, Andhra Pradesh, for allegedly murdering his daughter after she married a man against his wishes. The suspect, identified as Chandra Srinu, reportedly attempted to disguise the killing as a suicide. However, a subsequent forensic examination exposed the homicide, according to law enforcement authorities.
Elopement and Police Complaints
The victim, Chowdeswari, an intermediate graduate residing in Yadav Bazar in the 22nd ward of Macherla town, had been in a relationship with a local resident named Nagaraju. Fearing opposition from their families despite belonging to the same community, the couple fled the town and wed secretly. After spending several days in Chennai, they relocated to a friend’s residence in Narasaraopet.
Following his daughter's disappearance, Srinu initially filed a missing person report with the local police. Tensions escalated when, after a week without updates, he attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol over himself at the Macherla police station, accusing law enforcement of negligence. The situation was defused after the Gurazala Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) intervened, assuring the family that an active search was underway.

Community Mediation and Disagreement
Three days after the protest at the police station, investigators located the couple and brought them to the Macherla police station for counseling involving elders from both families. Because both individuals were legal adults, police officers noted that they could not legally interfere with the union.
During a subsequent community mediation, Chowdeswari firmly stated her intention to live with her husband. However, community elders directed that the couple separate for five days to allow tempers to cool before a final arrangement was reached. Chowdeswari returned to her father’s home under this agreement.
Forensic Evidence Exposes Murder
The following day, Srinu announced to neighbors and relatives that his daughter had died by suicide due to distress. While the community initially believed the account, local authorities registered a case and ordered a mandatory post-mortem examination.
The medical report revealed that Chowdeswari did not die by suicide. Instead, the forensic analysis indicated she was asphyxiated by her father while still alive before being hanged to stage a suicide scene. Following the autopsy findings, police took Srinu into custody, and a formal criminal investigation is currently underway.
