LB Nagar Police Bust Illegal Abortion, Sex Determination Racket in Hyderabad; Fake Doctor Arrested
Hyderabad police have cracked down on two separate illegal abortion and sex determination networks operating in the LB Nagar zone, arresting a woman posing as a doctor and exposing a hospital-based racket that charged up to Rs 50,000 for illegal abortions and Rs 20,000 for sex determination tests.
The matter came to light after a young woman's health deteriorated following an illegal abortion procedure — forcing the case into the open.
Fake Doctor Ran Clinic in Nagole, Charged Rs 50,000 Per Abortion
As per officials, the accused — identified as Veera Revathi, 50 — was running a clinic called Kesari First Aid Clinic in Jaipuri Colony, Nagole. She had no valid medical qualification but had previously worked as an ayah (ward attendant) in hospitals, reportedly picking up enough knowledge to carry out procedures.
Police allege she was performing illegal abortions at the clinic, charging patients Rs 50,000 per procedure. A recent case involving a young woman from the Nagole area drew attention after the victim's condition worsened post-procedure. That health emergency triggered the police investigation.
LB Nagar SOT (Special Operations Team) conducted a decoy operation, caught Revathi in the act, and took her into custody. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law.
Hayagriva Hospital in Vanasthalipuram Also Targeted
In a separate decoy operation on the same day, LB Nagar SOT police raided Hayagriva Hospital in Vanasthalipuram on allegations of conducting illegal sex determination tests — a practice banned under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act.
Allegations indicate the hospital was demanding Rs 20,000 for sex determination procedures. Police used a pregnant woman decoy, brought to the facility through a middleman, to expose the racket from the inside.
The operation successfully identified the gang's modus operandi — using agents to source clients and route them to the hospital covertly.
Two Operations, Coordinated Crackdown
Both decoy operations were conducted by the LB Nagar SOT unit and reflect a coordinated push against illegal medical practices in the area. The accused in the Nagole case has been taken into custody, and the investigation into the Vanasthalipuram hospital is ongoing, as per sources close to the matter.
Authorities are now probing whether larger networks are involved — particularly the role of middlemen who allegedly connected clients to both the fake clinic and the hospital.
Background: Illegal Abortions and Sex Determination Remain a Serious Concern
Illegal abortions and sex determination tests continue to surface periodically across Telangana, often run by unqualified individuals or clinics operating under the cover of legitimate-sounding names. The PCPNDT Act strictly prohibits sex determination before birth, and illegal abortions outside registered medical facilities carry criminal liability under both the MTP Act and IPC provisions.
Cases like these — especially ones involving fake medical practitioners who have worked as hospital support staff — point to a gap that enforcement agencies have been trying to address for years.
The latest update from LB Nagar police suggests that decoy operations remain one of the more effective tools in exposing such networks before more victims are harmed.
