Police Officer Assaults Civilian Over 'Disrespectful' Greeting

A shocking incident of police high-handedness has ignited public anger in Karimnagar, Telangana, after a Sub-Inspector brutally assaulted a man for a seemingly trivial reason. The event, now widely known as the Karimnagar SI attack, occurred when a local salon worker addressed the officer as 'Anna'—a common and respectful term for an elder brother.

The incident took place in Khanpura, located in the Karimnagar district headquarters. According to eyewitnesses, Sub-Inspector Chander from the Three Town police station entered a local salon. A worker at the establishment, identified as Ramulu, greeted the officer with the term 'Anna'. This customary sign of respect was unexpectedly met with fury.A Term of Respect Met with Violence

Instead of acknowledging the greeting, SI Chander allegedly flew into a rage, questioning why Ramulu would dare address him so informally. Witnesses report that the officer began verbally abusing Ramulu with foul language, insisting that he be addressed as 'Sir'. The situation rapidly escalated from a verbal confrontation to a physical assault.

Onlookers stated that the sub-inspector proceeded to mercilessly beat Ramulu inside the salon. The unprovoked attack left the victim and others in the vicinity stunned and fearful.

Public Outcry and Calls for Accountability

News of the assault spread quickly, largely through social media, sparking widespread condemnation of SI Chander's actions. Citizens and activists are calling the incident a blatant abuse of power and a concerning example of police brutality over a minor perceived slight. Many have pointed out the irony of a term used for respect becoming the trigger for such a violent outburst.

Investigation Demanded into the Officer's Conduct

The incident has put a spotlight on the conduct of police officials in the region. There is a growing demand for a thorough and impartial investigation into the Khanpura salon assault. Community leaders and the public are urging senior police officials to take immediate disciplinary action against SI Chander to restore public trust in the force. As of now, an official response from the Karimnagar police department is awaited.
