17 Students Fall Ill After Suspected Food Poisoning at Kamareddy Gurukul School

Seventeen students at a residential Gurukul school in Telangana's Kamareddy district fell ill after reportedly suffering suspected food poisoning following dinner, prompting hospitalisation, a medical response at the school, and an inquiry by local officials.

The incident occurred at the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule School in Birkur, where a total of 498 students are enrolled. According to available information, 12 students developed symptoms including vomiting and diarrhoea shortly after having dinner on Sunday night. Emergency medical services transported them by a 108 ambulance to the Government Hospital in Banswada for treatment.

On Monday, five more students were admitted to the hospital after experiencing similar symptoms, taking the total number of affected students to 17.

Most Students Discharged After Treatment

Doctors said the condition of the majority of the students improved after receiving medical care. Dr. Srilekha confirmed that 16 students were discharged after their health stabilised, while one student remained in hospital for continued treatment.

Medical authorities also organised a health camp at the school to examine other students and monitor their condition as a precautionary measure.

Officials Visit School

Following the incident, Revenue Divisional Officer Satyanath Reddy, Tahsildar Savai Singh, and MPTC member Srinidhi visited the school to gather details about the case and assess the situation.

Local leaders from the BRS party also visited the Government Hospital in Banswada to meet the affected students and enquire about their health.

Precautionary Response

Food poisoning incidents in residential educational institutions typically require immediate medical intervention and monitoring because large numbers of students share common meals. In this case, authorities responded by providing hospital treatment to affected students and conducting medical examinations for others on the school campus.
