Jangaon Councillor Booked After Attempted Sexual Assault Allegation in Chagallu Village

A municipal ward councillor in Telangana's Jangaon district has been taken into police custody after a complaint alleged that he entered an elderly woman's house late at night and attempted to sexually assault her. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.

The incident was reported from Chagallu village in Station Ghanpur mandal, where allegations against an elected public representative have sparked concern among local residents. According to the complaint filed by the victim's family, the accused is Sampath Raj, the councillor representing Ward No. 9 of the Chagallu municipality.

Police said the case is under investigation, and the allegations are being examined based on the complaint, witness statements and other available evidence. Authorities have not announced any conclusions regarding the allegations.

Complaint Alleges Late-Night Intrusion

According to the victim's family, the incident took place around midnight when the councillor allegedly entered the elderly woman's residence without clothing while under the influence of alcohol.

The family alleged that most members of the household were asleep at the time and that the accused entered the room where the elderly woman was alone. They further alleged that he attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman reportedly raised an alarm after waking up, alerting her family members and nearby residents.

Villagers Restrained the Accused

According to local residents, the accused allegedly attempted to flee after people gathered at the house. During the attempt to escape, he reportedly entered a nearby bathroom and locked himself inside.

Residents then secured the bathroom door from the outside to prevent him from leaving and immediately informed the Station Ghanpur police.

Police officers reached the scene, took the accused into custody and shifted him to the police station for further legal proceedings.

Police Register Case

Based on the complaint submitted by the victim's family, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Investigators have recorded the elderly woman's statement and are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police have also inspected the location and begun collecting statements from local residents who may have witnessed events before or after the alleged offence.
