Authorities defer Hyderabad RRR approval, plan fresh tenders amid delays

No approval for RRR in FY 2025–26

The proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) project around Hyderabad has not received approval for the financial year 2025–26, indicating further delays in execution. The project, considered a major infrastructure initiative, remains pending at the approval stage.

Officials are yet to confirm a revised timeline for clearance, even as uncertainties continue over funding and prioritisation within the current fiscal framework.

Fresh tenders likely after scrapping earlier bids

Authorities are considering scrapping the existing tenders for the project, with plans to invite fresh bids by November. The move suggests procedural setbacks in the tendering process.

A reset in bidding could further extend timelines, particularly as the project already faces delays in key segments. The decision is expected to impact contractors and associated planning stages.

North section faces significant delay

The northern section of the RRR has seen notable delays, affecting overall progress. This stretch, estimated at ₹18,000 crore, forms a substantial portion of the larger project.

The total cost of the Regional Ring Road project is pegged at ₹40,000 crore. Delays in one segment are likely to influence scheduling and execution of the remaining sections.

Project scaled down from original plan

The scope of the RRR has been reduced from its initial design. The road is now planned as a six-lane corridor instead of eight lanes, and service roads have been removed from the design.

Additionally, the project will be developed as a standard National Highway rather than an expressway. These changes reflect adjustments made amid cost and priority considerations.

Priority concerns slow progress

Officials have indicated that the project is not being treated as a priority at present, contributing to the slowdown. The lack of urgency has affected both administrative decisions and project movement.

The RRR is intended to improve connectivity around Hyderabad by diverting traffic and supporting regional development. However, with approvals pending and plans being revised, timelines remain uncertain.
