Government Revises Fuel Prices as Hyderabad Petrol Rates Remain Highest
Petrol and diesel prices have recorded a sharp increase across India following continued tensions in West Asia and disruptions in global crude oil supply. The latest fuel price update has pushed Hyderabad petrol prices to the highest level among major Indian cities, with consumers facing a steep rise in transportation and daily expenses.
The increase comes amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict and reports of disruption in oil movement through the Hormuz Strait, a critical global energy route. The development has impacted crude oil supply chains across several countries, including India.
According to the latest update, the Central government revised fuel prices three times within a span of 10 days. Petrol prices were increased by Rs. 3 per litre on May 15, followed by a hike of 90 paise on May 19. Another increase of 87 paise per litre was announced on May 23 through official orders.
Overall, petrol and diesel consumers are now paying nearly Rs. 5 more per litre compared to rates earlier this month. In addition, CNG prices in cities like Delhi have also increased by around Rs. 1 per kilogram.
Hyderabad Petrol Prices Highest Due to VAT
Among major metro cities, Hyderabad continues to report the highest petrol and diesel prices. As per the latest fuel price data, petrol in Hyderabad is priced at Rs. 112.71 per litre, while diesel costs Rs. 100.86 per litre.
Officials and market experts point to higher state VAT as the primary reason behind the elevated fuel prices in Hyderabad compared to other cities.
In Delhi, petrol is currently priced at Rs. 99.51 per litre, while diesel stands at Rs. 92.49. Mumbai recorded petrol prices at Rs. 108.49 and diesel at Rs. 95.02 per litre.
Kolkata reported petrol prices at Rs. 110.64 and diesel at Rs. 97.02 per litre. In Chennai, petrol costs Rs. 105.31 per litre, while diesel is being sold at Rs. 96.98.
Fuel Price Hike Raises Concerns Over Inflation
The continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices has triggered concerns over increasing transportation costs and inflation. Experts warn that higher fuel prices may soon impact the prices of essential commodities and logistics services across the country.
Transport operators and consumers are already facing pressure due to rising operational costs. Analysts believe the situation could worsen if global crude oil supply remains unstable in the coming weeks.
The latest fuel price hike has also renewed discussions around taxation on petroleum products and the need for price stability measures. While there has been no official statement regarding any rollback, market observers are closely monitoring international developments and their impact on domestic fuel rates.
With Hyderabad fuel prices remaining the highest among major cities, consumers in Telangana are expected to continue bearing a heavier burden unless tax revisions or global oil conditions improve.
