Hyderabad Police Arrest ATM Cash Van Driver, Sons in ₹17 Lakh Theft Case
A Hyderabad Police investigation has uncovered an alleged ATM cash theft planned by a cash van driver with the help of his two sons. The accused allegedly fled with ₹17 lakh meant for cash replenishment at an ATM, but police recovered ₹14.55 lakh during the investigation.
The case, officials say, was driven by financial distress. The police investigation also revealed that the theft had been planned in advance.
ATM Cash Theft Planned During Cash Replenishment
According to Charminar Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Khare Kiran Prabhakar, the accused, Chintala Srinivas alias Srinu (42), worked as a driver for Cleared Security Services Private Limited and was assigned to transport cash for ATM loading. Originally from Gorregundam village in Jagtial district, he was residing in Ferozguda, Hyderabad.
His sons, Chintala Aneesh alias John (22) and Chintala Jaswanth (20), were employed as Swiggy delivery executives and lived in Peerzadiguda.
As per the police investigation, Srinivas allegedly devised a plan to steal cash from the very vehicle he was assigned to drive. He informed his sons about the plan and involved them in carrying out the offence.

Theft Executed Near Edi Bazaar SBI ATM
The incident took place around 1.30 pm on June 23 near the SBI ATM at Edi Bazaar under the IS Sadan police station limits.
Police said that while other staff members were busy loading cash into the ATM, Srinivas allegedly picked up a cash bag containing ₹17 lakh from the van and escaped through a nearby lane.
His elder son, Aneesh, who had been waiting nearby on a Passion Plus motorcycle as part of the alleged plan, picked him up and fled the spot.
Police Investigation Led to Quick Arrests
According to officials, after leaving the area, Srinivas and Aneesh met Jaswanth in Peerzadiguda and handed over ₹10 lakh to him for safekeeping. The remaining ₹7 lakh stayed with Srinivas and Aneesh, who reportedly travelled to different places and spent part of the stolen money.
Following a complaint lodged by cash custodian Bantupalli Suresh, IS Sadan Police registered a case under Crime No.160/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A police investigation was launched immediately.
CCTV Footage and Technical Evidence Cracked the Case
Investigators examined CCTV footage from the area, which showed the driver escaping with the cash bag on a motorcycle ridden by another person. Technical evidence helped police identify the rider as Aneesh.
Acting on specific information, the Charminar Task Force and IS Sadan Police conducted a joint operation near Bros Boys Hostel in Boinpally on Thursday afternoon and arrested Srinivas and Aneesh.
During questioning, the two allegedly admitted to their role in the theft. Based on their statements, police later arrested Jaswanth from Peerzadiguda and recovered the money kept with him.
₹14.55 Lakh Recovered, Case Registered
Police recovered ₹14.55 lakh in cash, the Passion Plus motorcycle allegedly used during the offence, and four mobile phones from the accused.
The three accused have been produced before the court for judicial remand. Officials said the police investigation is continuing as part of the latest update in the ATM cash theft case.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional DCP Ande Srinivasa Rao, with officers from the Charminar Task Force and IS Sadan Police playing a key role in solving the case.
