Civil Supplies Department Faces Questions After Gas Leak Dispute in Aswapuram
Dispute Erupts at HP Gas Office
A dispute broke out at the HP Gas office in Aswapuram mandal headquarters on Monday night around 8 pm. The incident involved a consumer from Seetharampuram village and gas agency staff, leading to tension at the office premises.
According to available details, the issue began after a leaking gas cylinder was allegedly supplied to the consumer by the agency staff.
Leak Incident Triggers Safety Concern
After taking the cylinder home, the consumer’s family noticed a significant gas leak. Acting promptly, the family members moved the cylinder outside the house to avoid any danger.
The family then brought the leaking cylinder back to the gas office and questioned the staff over the supply. This led to an argument between the consumer and the agency employees.
Argument Continues at Office Premises
The dispute reportedly continued for nearly half an hour, with gas office staff and delivery personnel confronting the consumer. The situation drew attention from people in the surrounding area.
Local residents expressed concern over the handling of the issue and the response from the gas agency staff.
Allegations Against the Agency and Pricing Concerns
Residents criticised the functioning of the HP Gas agency, alleging irregular practices. They claimed that cylinders were being stored and sold openly near the office without proper regulation.
There were also allegations that, taking advantage of the gas shortage, the dealer was selling commercial cylinders at ₹3500 and domestic cylinders between ₹2000 and ₹2500.
Questions Raised Over Official Oversight
Locals pointed to alleged negligence by Civil Supplies officials, stating that a lack of monitoring had allowed such practices to continue in the mandal headquarters.
The incident has raised concerns over safety standards and enforcement at gas distribution points, especially in residential areas.
