In a shocking incident that has drawn widespread condemnation, renowned environmentalist and National President of Jala Sadhana Samithi, Dusharla Satyanarayana, was brutally attacked by a group of shepherds. The violent assault occurred after he asked them to stop grazing their sheep in the private forest he has painstakingly cultivated for over 15 years in Suryapet district. For the last decade and a half, Dusharla Satyanarayana has dedicated his life to transforming 70 acres of his ancestral land in Raghavapuram village into a thriving, dense forest. By planting thousands of saplings, he single-handedly created a vital green lung for the region. This man-made forest has become a significant ecological hub, serving as an open-air laboratory for countless students, researchers, and fellow environmentalists who come to study its rich biodiversity.
The Confrontation That Turned Violent
The conflict began when Satyanarayana discovered two individuals, identified as Bayya Gangaiah and Mallayya, cutting down trees and illegally grazing their sheep and buffaloes within his protected land. When he approached them and requested they leave the property to prevent damage to the delicate ecosystem, the situation escalated dramatically. The shepherds allegedly summoned their family members and launched a merciless attack on the conservationist, beating him indiscriminately with sticks.
The Aftermath and Police Investigation
Suffering from serious injuries, Satyanarayana was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment. From his hospital bed, he filed a formal police complaint, naming Gangaiah, Mallayya, Roshalu, Sumalatha, Yashwant, and Anusha as his assailants. He has urged the authorities to take the strictest possible action against those responsible for the vicious assault.
Acting on the complaint, local police have registered a case against the accused individuals.
