Delhi Government Introduces Work From Home Policy for Employees
The Government of Delhi has announced a major administrative reform by allowing state government employees to work from home for two days every week. The latest update was issued as part of efforts to reduce vehicle usage and improve public transport participation in the national capital.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed officials to implement the decision from Friday. The move comes under the broader “Mera Bharat – Mera Kartavya” campaign launched by the Delhi government to encourage responsible civic participation and reduce traffic pressure in the city.
Delhi Work From Home Policy Begins From Friday
Under the new Delhi work from home policy, government employees will be allowed to perform official duties remotely for two days a week. Officials said the measure is aimed at cutting down unnecessary travel and reducing fuel consumption across the city.
The government has also decided to limit the number of vehicles in the Chief Minister’s convoy. As part of the latest administrative measures, the convoy strength will be reduced to four vehicles.
The official statement indicated that the government wants departments to adopt practical measures that support traffic reduction and public transport usage.
Delhi Government Launches “Monday Metro” Initiative
As part of the campaign, the Delhi government will organise a weekly “Monday Metro” initiative. The programme is intended to encourage employees and officials to use metro rail services instead of private vehicles.
Officials believe the initiative can help reduce congestion on city roads while also promoting environmentally responsible commuting practices. The government has linked the programme with its broader campaign focused on civic responsibility and sustainable transport.
The administration has not yet released detailed operational guidelines regarding department-wise implementation of the work from home arrangement. However, departments are expected to begin following the directive immediately.
Government Focuses on Vehicle Reduction Measures
The latest decision also highlights the Delhi government’s focus on reducing official vehicle usage. Along with the work from home arrangement, restrictions on convoy movement are being treated as part of a larger effort to control traffic movement in the capital.
The policy announcement comes at a time when urban administrations across India are exploring flexible work systems and public transport-based mobility measures. Officials said the campaign will continue with public participation activities in the coming weeks.
Authorities are expected to monitor the implementation process and review the response from departments after the initial rollout phase.
