Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 23 runs in Match 18 of IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Sanju Samson’s unbeaten century and a four-wicket haul by Jamie Overton secured the victory for the home side.

Despite Delhi Capitals winning the toss and electing to bowl, the Chennai top order dominated the proceedings. The win strengthens Chennai’s position in the tournament standings while Delhi faces a setback in their campaign.

Samson Leads Chennai To Massive Total

Chennai Super Kings posted a formidable 212/2 in their allotted 20 overs. Sanju Samson anchored the innings with a brilliant 115 not out off just 56 deliveries, hitting 15 boundaries and four sixes.

Samson found reliable support from Ayush Mhatre, who contributed 59 runs off 36 balls before being retired out. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the first to fall for 15, dismissed by Axar Patel. Shivam Dube provided the closing flourish with an unbeaten 20 off 10 balls.

The Delhi bowling attack struggled to contain the flow of runs. T Natarajan proved expensive, conceding 54 runs in his four overs, while Axar Patel was the only wicket-taker for the Capitals.

Overton Dismantles Delhi Run Chase

Chasing 213 for victory, Delhi Capitals were bowled out for 189 in exactly 20 overs. Tristan Stubbs kept the chase alive with a gritty 60 off 38 balls, but lacked sustained support from the middle order.

Jamie Overton emerged as the standout performer with the ball for Chennai. He registered figures of 4/18 in four overs, accounting for key wickets including David Miller and Tristan Stubbs.

Anshul Kamboj also played a critical role, picking up 3/35 to dismantle the lower order. Earlier, Pathum Nissanka (41) and KL Rahul (18) provided a brisk start, but Khaleel Ahmed broke the opening stand to trigger a regular fall of wickets.

Tournament Standings and Match Officials

The match was officiated by on-field umpires Saidharshan Veetil and Vinod Seshan, with Nitin Menon serving as the third umpire. Shakti Singh acted as the match referee for this high-scoring encounter.

With this 23-run win, Chennai Super Kings successfully defended their home turf. Delhi Capitals will look to address their bowling concerns in the upcoming fixtures of the IPL 2026 season.
