MPs Informed on Constitutional Amendment Bill
As part of the process, Members of Parliament have been informed about a proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill linked to the delimitation exercise. The bill is expected to address the legal framework required to implement the revised seat structure.
The communication to MPs marks a formal step in taking the proposal forward within the legislative system.
Women’s Reservation Linked to Delimitation
The proposal also connects the implementation of 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha directly with the delimitation process. The reservation is planned to be applied after the restructuring of constituencies.
Based on the proposed total of 850 seats, more than 280 seats are expected to be reserved for women under this framework.
Context of Electoral Reforms
Delimitation exercises are carried out to redraw constituency boundaries and adjust seat allocation based on evolving requirements. The current proposal places emphasis on both increasing representation and incorporating reservation provisions.
Further developments are expected as discussions on the Constitutional Amendment Bill progress and legislative procedures move ahead.
