BRS Leader KTR Challenges Telangana Government Over 24-Hour Free Electricity
The debate over 24-hour free electricity for farmers has resurfaced in Telangana after BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao accused the Congress government of planning changes to the existing power supply system. The latest update comes amid an intensifying political confrontation between the opposition BRS and the state government over farmer welfare and electricity policy.
KTR alleged that the Congress government was moving towards reducing the power supply available to farmers and questioned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's commitment to promises made during the election campaign. The remarks were made as part of a broader political attack on the government's handling of agricultural and power-related issues.
KTR Raises Questions on Farmer Electricity Supply
Speaking on the issue of 24-hour free electricity, KTR claimed that the government was attempting to alter a system introduced during the tenure of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). According to him, uninterrupted free power supply was implemented to support farmers and improve agricultural productivity across the state.
KTR further alleged that efforts were being made to limit the duration of electricity supplied to the agricultural sector. He linked the alleged move to past statements made by Revanth Reddy when he was in the opposition, claiming that the current administration was now attempting to implement a similar approach.
Political Challenge to Revanth Reddy
The BRS leader also targeted the Chief Minister over remarks related to electricity meters on agricultural pump sets. KTR questioned the government's position on the issue and accused Revanth Reddy of making contradictory statements.
As part of his criticism, KTR challenged the Chief Minister to publicly commit to implementing all election promises before seeking another electoral mandate. He claimed that the Congress government should focus on fulfilling its assurances rather than making fresh political declarations.
Allegations Over Proposed Farmer Discom
Another major point raised by KTR was the proposal for a separate power distribution structure focused on the agricultural sector. He alleged that the move was being presented as a farmer-friendly initiative while concealing policies that could negatively affect cultivators.
According to KTR, the proposal could impact the continuation of the existing free power supply model. However, no official government announcement supporting these allegations was cited in his remarks.
Government Yet to Issue Detailed Response
At the time of the statement, no detailed official response addressing KTR's allegations was available. The issue is likely to remain a key political talking point as both the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS continue to spar over farmer welfare, electricity policy, and election commitments.
The controversy surrounding 24-hour free electricity, farmer power supply, election promises, and the proposed agricultural power distribution framework is expected to remain under public and political scrutiny in the coming weeks.
