CM Naidu Addresses Statewide Fuel Disruption

In response to a burgeoning crisis at petrol stations across the state, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu convened an emergency review meeting via video conference to address the widespread fuel shortages. Officials briefed the Chief Minister, clarifying that the current strain is not due to a supply deficit but rather a massive surge in panic buying from concerned citizens.

The government confirmed that while fuel supply has actually been increased by 10 percent, public anxiety has driven sales to unprecedented levels, causing long queues and temporary stockouts at numerous fuel bunks. This sudden spike in demand has overwhelmed the distribution network, leading to the perception of a severe scarcity.

Unprecedented 50% Spike in Fuel Sales Reported

During the high-level meeting, which included State Chief Secretary Sai Prasad and other senior officials, startling figures were presented that illustrate the scale of the panic buying. On a typical day, the state records sales of approximately 6,330 kiloliters (KL) of petrol and 9,048 KL of diesel.

However, officials reported that this past Saturday, sales skyrocketed to 10,345 KL of petrol and a staggering 14,156 KL of diesel. This represents a nearly 50% increase over normal consumption levels, a volume that has rapidly depleted inventories at retail outlets and created significant logistical challenges.

Government Directs Immediate Action to Restore Normalcy

Chief Minister Naidu expressed serious concern over the situation and has directed officials to take immediate and decisive action to resolve the issue and restore public confidence. He has demanded a comprehensive report detailing the steps taken by various government departments to manage the crisis and ensure a swift return to normal fuel availability.

Authorities are focusing on streamlining supply chains, ensuring tankers reach all bunks efficiently, and launching a public information campaign to quell rumors and discourage hoarding. The government's primary message is to reassure the public that there are adequate fuel reserves and to urge a return to normal purchasing habits to allow the system to stabilize.
