Ahmedabad Police Arrest Couple For Alleged Poisoning Of Minor Daughters Over Preference For Son
Initial Food Poisoning Claims Debunked By Medical Reports
The Ahmedabad Police have uncovered a grim case of alleged double homicide where parents reportedly poisoned their two minor daughters. On April 1, Vimal Prajapati and his wife Bhavna were admitted to a local hospital along with their daughters, Mishri (4) and Raha (3 months), claiming severe food poisoning after consuming dosa batter.
While the two young children succumbed during treatment, the parents survived, prompting the police to launch a detailed technical investigation. Suspicion first arose when officials questioned how a three-month-old infant, typically on a breastmilk diet, could suffer from food poisoning attributed to fermented dosa batter.
Forensic Analysis Reveals Presence Of Toxic Pesticide
A toxicology report from the forensic laboratory significantly altered the direction of the probe. The analysis confirmed the presence of Aluminium Phosphide, a highly toxic pesticide commonly used as a grain preservative (Celphos), in the blood samples of the victims.
During a subsequent search of the residence, police recovered a diary belonging to Bhavna. The entries detailed an intense desire for a male child and a vow to visit a specific temple if her wish was fulfilled. This discovery provided a potential motive for the crime, suggesting a deep-seated gender bias.
Police Track Purchase Of Lethal Chemical Packets
The investigation intensified after local dairy owners pointed out that no other customers had reported illness from the same batch of batter. Police eventually tracked a purchase of ten packets of the lethal pesticide by Vimal Prajapati.
Inventory checks conducted by the authorities accounted for only eight packets, with the accused failing to provide a legitimate explanation for the two missing units. Investigators believe the couple administered the toxin to the children and consumed a non-lethal dose themselves to orchestrate a cover-up.
Legal Action And Custody
Ahmedabad Police have moved to register a formal case of murder and criminal conspiracy against the couple. The parents are currently in custody as authorities complete the final charge sheet based on forensic evidence and the recovered personal diary.
